We're pleased to announce that we have just secured a brand-new contract with London Borough of Camden to supply them with over 60 vans to be used in London's new ULEZ.
Set on a 12-month contract, the following vehicles will aid the authority in reducing their internal costs with operating within the ULEZ:
- 19x Citroen Berlingo vans + accessories
- 40x Renault Trafic Business & LWB panel vans + accessories
- 2x Peugeot Boxer Professional MWB
This exercise was tendered and we, as Day's Rental, came out on top with serviceability and availability. Additionally, it will enhance the opening of the new Day's Rental branch in Watford and will provide a solid base on which further progress into London will be accompanied, whilst employing new employees from the Watford area.
To enhance the vehicles, we provide a fit out that includes roof bars, seat covers, mats and deadlocks fitted to the doors for heightened security. London Borough of Camden Council will then further fit out these vans with their own tracking systems and forward-facing cameras.
With the ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) encompassing one-third of the geographical area of the Borough, the authority needed to reduce its charges for servicing its own area. The introduction of these vehicles, aids them against their current 320-strong vehicle fleet so the newer vehicles are used in the ULEZ, thus making a £12.50 per day saving, each time they enter zone.
What are the charges for ULEZ?
If a vehicle does not meet the ULEZ standard, it will face the following daily costs:
- £12.50 for most vehicle types, including cars and vans (up to and including 3.5 tonnes)
- £100 for heaver vehicles, including lorries (over 3.5 tonnes)

ULEZ Extended from October 2021
From 25 October 2021, the ULEZ area will be extended, encompassing the entire London Borough of Camden, hence the importance that Camden Council prepare for this change and additional cost in readiness.

We are also in discussions at the feasibility to provide 3.5T Iveco Commercial Vehicles to be powered by CNG (compressed natural gas) as panel vans, and other variations.
As indicated above, in 2021 the ULEZ will expand in size to encompass many more authorities, thus creating a requirement for compliant commercial vehicles, which support the 'Clean Air Strategy' for London.
